Deasley puts North End on road to win over Forfar United

-

Dundee North End remain at the top of the Mcbookie.com Midlands League, a point ahead of Carnoustie Panmure and Kirriemuir Thistle, after beating Forfar United 4-2 at Guthrie Park.

The league leaders went in front through Bryan Deasley and then Frankie Devine increased the lead before half time.

A minute into the second half and it was 3-0 thanks to sub Millar Gibson before the fourth came courtesy of an own goal after a long clearance from North End goalkeeper, Gary Thain.

Connor Birse pulled back a goal late on and they added a second from another own goal in the dying minutes.

Carnoustie Panmure were made to work hard by a dogged Letham at Laing Park, where the visitors ended the game with nine men. Just before half time Paddy Deane was booked for a clumsy challenge on Bailey Steel and got a second yellow and a red for dissent.

On 64 minutes Letham were reduced to nine men Stuart Nicol was booked for a foul on 63 minutes then a minute later kicked the ball away and was shown a second yellow card and sent off.

The Gowfers took advantage and took the lead on 68 minutes, Kieran Conway was bundled over in the box and Sam Simpson made no mistake from the spot. Substitute Arran Leiper made sure of the points with five minutes to go.

Dundee Downfield and Lochee United played out a 0-0 draw at Downfield Park. Lochee United midfielder Ross Gallacher was sent off for an alleged elbow.

Broughty Atheltic bounced back from their 4-0 defeat at Kirriemuir Thistle in midweek as they thrashed Blairgowrie 7-0 at Davie Park. Ryan Mcinnes gave Broughty a 12th minute lead before two goals in a minute from Rikki Gillespie on 32 and 33 minutes saw the visitors lead 3-0 at half time.

Gillespie completed his hat-trick on 54 minutes before two goals from Mitchell Findlay on 65 and 86 minutes sandwiched a Ben Middleton goal for an emphatic victory.

Arbroath Vics lost 1-0 to Coupar Angus. The only goal came two minutes into the second half from Owen Neave.

Dundee East Craigie recorded back-to-back victories at home as they beat Forfar West End 2-1 at Craigie Park. Jordan Conway put The Shipbuilders in front from the spot on the half hour before Rory Faulkner doubled the advantage on 58 minutes.

Ethan Sampson pulled a goal back for West End late on, but it was no more than a consolation for the visitors.

Dundee Violet edged out Scone Thistle by a single goal at Glenesk Park, the only goal came on 76 minutes from Tom Cunningham.

Kirriemuir Thistle came from behind to beat Dundee St James 3-1 at home. St James took the lead on four minutes thanks to a penalty from Jamie Mccann that at the same time saw Kirrie goalkeeper Lewis Coutts pick up an injury and be replaced by Daryl Burns.

However, Ben Starkey levelled things up on 21 minutes before Marc Ogg put Kirrie in front, four minutes later. Craig Batchelor completed the scoring.

Tayport continued their resurgence after a poor start, with a 3-1 win over Lochee Harp at The Canniepairt. Luke O’brien gave Tayport the lead on 25 minutes and Kieran Sturrock made it 2-0 on 55 minutes. Bryce Affleck pulled a goal back for Harp late on but Sturrock restored the two goal cushion in stoppage time.

If the Mcbookie.com North Region Premier League game between Montrose Roselea and Bridge of Don Thistle was a boxing match then it would have been stopped with Roselea winning the fight.

But a mistake by the Roselea keeper led to the only goal coming from the visitors in the first half courtesy of Joji. The game will go down as three points dropped for Eric Watson’s side.
