Grand Swiss adventure begins for Fife Scouts
IT’S ALWAYS good to be prepared.
Following an intense year of planning, training and fundraising, a group of Fife Scouts set off on a grand adventure today.
Some 48 Scouts, explorers and leaders from 8th Fife Scout Group, along with leaders and explorers from both Burnside Explorer Unit, Balmullo, and Auchtermucty Explorer Unit will leave for Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland.
KISC, established in 1923 by Scouting founder Lord Baden Powell, promises a fun-f illed week packed with many activities including the chance to meet more than 2,000 Scouts visiting from all over the world.
Scouts will also have the opportunity to take part in celebrating Swiss National Day on August 1.
Among the activities planned is Alpine trekking, swimming in a glacier lake and celebrating the centre’s 90th anniversary.
The culmination of many hours of hard work by the Scout leaders was the final training camp held at Douglas Wood, by Dundee.
Explorer leader Charmaine Duthie said: “It is thanks to the sheer determination, hard work and dedication of the volunteer Scout leaders and students and Scout leaders from the University of St Andrews that this special trip to Kandersteg on KISC’s 90th anniversary has been made possible.”
