Huge turnout expected at town’s annual Highland Games
Thousands of people are expected to visit the 32nd St Andrews Highland Games on Sunday.
The town’s annual games, which take place at Station Park, are always popular with local residents and visitors alike, with a great mix of traditional and new events for all the family to enjoy.
Family entertainment throughout the day includes all the events inside the arena such as the heavyweights, running, cycling and tug ‘o’ war, while outwith the main arena there will also be solo piping and a junior funfair, as well as more than 30 trade stalls.
Events start at 11am with the highland dancing competitions, and the main events will start at 1pm.
The Games will be officially opened by the City of St Andrews Pipe Band, while the popular overseas visitors race is due to start at around 3pm, followed by children’s races.
“The St Andrews Highland Games always attracts a keen and enthusiastic crowd of all ages, which makes for a fantastic atmosphere,” Games secretary Ian Grieve said.
“We have a great range of activities and entertainment lined up this year for everyone to enjoy. The pipe bands always receive a resounding welcome and the children’s races inevitably provoke great amusement.
“A lot of hard work goes into making the games happen year on year, and I’d like to thank all our volunteers, members, competitors and sponsors for their continued support. Their contributions help to make it a memorable day for all our spectators and participants.”
Entry costs £7 for adults and £4 for concessions, children under five can enter for free, and car parking is also free.
