Trespass warning despite drop in Fife railway incidents

-

A warning has been issued to young people across Scotland after figures revealed that trespassing on the railways is on the rise.

British Transport Police has urged parents to warn their children of the dangers of playing on the tracks as the number of reported incidents increased from 148 in 2013 to 175 in 2015.

Fife’s figures have actually fallen in the same period, with just nine incidents in the Kirkcaldy area last year compared with 17 in 2014 and 14 in 2013, but patrols are being stepped up across the board.

Chief Inspector Dave Marshall said: “The last thing our officers want to do is knock on someone’s door to tell a parent their child has been killed or seriously injured as a result of trespassing.”
