Officers investigating Seage Incident say attacker could be easterm European
Police want to trace a man thought to be of eastern European origin in connection with a sexual assault in a Dundee street.
Officers were called to the Seagate just after 10pm on Sunday following reports a woman had been attacked.
An area outside the Out Nightclub on Seagate was cordoned off, although police say the incident was not related to the club itself.
Inquiries continued yesterday morning.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “The man responsible is described as being in his twenties, about 5ft 10in, slim build, with short dark brown hair, tanned complexion and may be Eastern European. He was wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans and black trainers. Anyone with information that could assist officers with their inquiries or have been approached by a man fitting the description is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
“If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
The manager of Out provided assistance to the victim until help arrived.
Paul Mobsby, 29, who lives opposite the club, said officers descended on the Seagate shortly after 10pm and were still interviewing people in the area until 4am.
People arriving for work in the Seagate yesterday morning said they were shocked by the incident.
Barber Drew Montgomery, 60, said: “At around 7.40am today the area around that nightclub was cordoned off with police tape.”
Adnan Panjwani, 36, owner of Panjwani News in the bus station, said: “I opened the shop around 7am today and there was still police tape around the area with one police car present.
“At around 7.30am, a further police car arrived and it looked like they were checking for fingerprints around the phone boxes outside the nightclub. “The officers left around 8.30am.” The incident occurred in an area of the Seagate directly opposite the bus station. smorkis@thecourier.co.uk
