Rural community rises to challenge

CHARITY: Great Glen event boosts RSABI campaign

- Gemma mackenzie

A team from Watson Seeds lifted the champion title at rural charity RSABI’s Great Glen Challenge.

The fundraising event, now in its fifth year, saw 92 competitors from 23 rural businesses run, cycle, or kayak through the Great Glen from Invermoriston to Neptune’s Staircase.

The gruelling challenge tested competitors from a wide range of organisations including the Royal Bank of Scotland, event sponsor Ledingham Chalmers, Johnston Carmichael and NFU Mutual.

The top title, based on the team with the best time, went to the group of Mark Sinclair, Andrew Best, Anne Barbour, James Addie and Peter Addie from Watson Seeds comprising.

Second and third went to two teams from CKD Galbraith.

In second were Diane Fleming, Will Frazer, Ashleigh Jedan, Dominic Wedderburn and David Corrie.

The third-placed team comprised Toby Kirkwood, Kevin Cochrane, George Lorimer, Alistair Christie and Bill Robertson. All funds raised from the event will go directly to RSABI, which provides financial assistance to those who have relied on the land.

The charity will use the money for its Help Us Help Them campaign, which was launched in June with the aim of raising £150,000 by spring next year to help put a stop to rural poverty.

Although the challenge is over, donations can still be made.

The charity is urging members of the rural community to dig deep and donate.
