City Deals still on the table despite Brexit vote
The Scottish Chambers of Commerce network recently met the Scottish Secretary to discuss the implications of Brexit for the Scottish economy.
One of my first questions to David Mundell was on the future of City Deals in Scotland, particular those in the earlier stages of planning such as Tayside, the Edinburgh City Region and Stirling.
The Secretary of State said the UK Government was committed to the concept of City Deals and continues to see them as a key driver of local economies and local accountability.
I believe this is particularly important in Scotland, where City Deals are filling a gap in terms of regional-level economic planning and development.
These schemes offer great potential to foster new investment and business growth, and the Chamber of Commerce network will work to support City Deals across Scotland now and in the future.
