Boost for pumped hydro storage

Plans for a nationally significant pumped hydro storage scheme have been revealed.

Eishken Ltd hopes to build the £200 million facility next to the already consented Muaithebhal windfarm on the Isle of Lewis.

It would be capable of generating enough power for 200,000 homes, and significantly increase usage of National Grid’s Western Isles Link connection.

Around 150 construction jobs would be created.
