Simunovic on verge of £3.5m Torino move

Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic is in Italy to undergo a medical ahead of a move to Torino, Press Associatio­n Sport understand­s.

The 22-year-old Croatian centreback has been plagued by injury since his move to Glasgow last summer from Dinamo Zagreb, restrictin­g him to 17 appearance­s for the club.

But now he is on the verge of a £3.5 million switch to the Serie A giants – looking to replace Napoliboun­d Nikola Maksimovic – after being given permission to head to Turin for talks.

His departure comes as former West Brom full-back Cristian Gamboa checked in to Parkhead to start his Celtic career.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers splashed out £1m for the Costa Rican internatio­nal ahead of the Champions League campaign.

Meanwhile, Kilmarnock announced they have agreed to rip-up defender Conrad Balatoni’s contract.

The former Hearts and Partick centre-back joined the Rugby Park outfit at the start of last season, going on to play 34 games under Gary Locke and his successor Lee Clark. However, the 25-year-old has now been told he is free to find a new club.

Inverness boss Richie Foran remains on the hunt for two new players, but refused to confirm if released St Johnstone defender Brad McKay was a target.
