Convener’s welcome

-

I am delighted to welcome visitors to the Dundee Flower & Food Festival 2016, my first as Convener of the Flower and Food Festival.

The Festival, now widely regarded as the best competitive horticultural show in Scotland, will again play host to displays of some of the finest flowers, fruit and vegetables in the country with growers once again overcoming difficult weather conditions to produce exhibits of the highest standards.

Our programme of guests, celebrities and entertainment is as varied as ever. On Friday 2 September, I am delighted to welcome well known gardener, Carole Baxter and Scottish Chef, Jak O’Donnell. Our celebrity guest on Saturday 3 September is French Chef Jean-Christophe Novelli and on Sunday 4 September I am extremely pleased to welcome The Incredible Spice Men (Cyrus Todiwala and Tony Singh) to the Festival.

For the first time I am delighted that the Scottish fighting experts, The Clann, will be performing at the Festival on Saturday and Sunday. The Clann has built a fearsome reputation as Scotland’s finest fighting stunt team and Europe’s most entertaining sword and combat group,

Three days of music entertainment includes on Friday the very best in musical entertainment from a variety of Dundee Schools and on Sunday, Sharon Shannon, fresh from her performance at the 2016 Glastonbury stage and the Philadelphia Folk Festival. Sharon is widely regarded as one of the most gifted musicians of her generation.

A full programme of gardening talks will take place in the Events Marquee over the weekend.

Finally, I would like to thank our sponsors and partners, Quality Meat Scotland (Scotch Lamb) for sponsoring the cookery demonstration kitchen, Forestry Commission Scotland and Dundee & Angus College.
