A motorist in his 20s died in a horrific Angus dual carriageway crash yesterday.

Police have yet to release the identity of the male victim but he is being named locally as 24-year-old Kieran Innes, who it is feared may have lain undiscovered in his overturned car for some time after it left the A90 just north of Forfar.

The tragedy is understood to have been reported by a farmer at 7.45am.

The crash happened around a mile north of Forfar, between the B957 Tannadice junction and the A926 leading to Quilkoe, on the southbound carriageway.

The silver car appeared to have left the A90 before going up an embankment and coming to rest upside down in undergrowth at the side of the road, barely visible to passing traffic on the route.

The male driver is understood to have been the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A single lane closure around the scene of the accident was quickly put in place by BEAR Scotland.

It remained in operation for a number of hours whilst Police accident investigators considered the circumstances of the tragedy.

Southbound traffic experienced minimal delays and the northbound dual carriageway was unaffected.

A police spokesperson said: “Next of kin have now been informed and formal identification will be carried out in due course.”

They have appealed for information from anyone who may have been on the route and witnessed anything which may assist in the investigation.

“Inquiries are ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101,” the spokesperson added.
