Toshney determined not to let Hibs’ gap widen

Dundee United aren’t worrying about the gap between them and Hibs growing to eight points after Sunday’s clash between the two clubs, according to Lewis Toshney.

Their thoughts are on trimming it to a very manageable two.

A win at Easter Road could be transformational for a United side which has been inconsistent so far this campaign.

And Toshney insisted that confidence is high going into the live TV clash.

“After Saturday’s result (a win against Morton) we’ve got the points’ margin down to five to Hibs and six to Queen of the South,” the former Dundee and Raith Rovers man said.

“We will be looking to catch up even more with a victory on Sunday.

“The lads will take confidence from the three points against Morton.

“We are looking forward to this game. Easter Road is a big stadium and Hibs are a good team.

“But if we concentrate on what we do then we know we can cause them problems. That’s what we’ll be looking to do.”

He added: “I worked with Neil Lennon at Celtic and I know what he is all about. He will be getting his players fired up.

“We know it is a big task but we have to be up for the fight.”

Toshney has been Ray McKinnon’s Mr Versatile so far this season and he doesn’t have a problem with being shuffled around the pitch.

He explained: “I played midfield for the gaffer in the last three months of the season at Raith.

“I’ve played centreback, right-back and now as a holding midfielder but I will do whatever the manager asks of me.

“Wherever he wants me to play I’ll work on it and get better.”
