A 52-year-old man has denied murdering Kirkcaldy father-of-two Darren Adie by repeatedly stabbing him on the body.

Gordon Coventry made his first appearance at the High Court in Glasgow yesterday.

He is accused of killing 42-year-old Mr Adie at Spey Avenue, Kirkcaldy, near to its junction with Napier Street, on May 28.

Coventry is also charged with throwing stones at Mr Adie and having a pair of scissors in his possession three weeks earlier on May 7 at Overton Mains, Kirkcaldy.

He is also accused of being concerned in the supply of cannabis and cannabis resin between January 1 and June 13.

Coventry, who is on remand at Saughton Prison, offered to plead guilty to the drugs charge, but this was not accepted by advocate depute Bernard Ablett, prosecuting.

Judge Lord Boyd set a trial date for April 3 2017 at the High Court in Dunfermline.

Mr Adie was rushed to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment but died from his injuries.

His family have a long connection with the Gallatown area and it is believed he was in the area visiting friends the day he died.

At a previous press conference organised by police, Darren’s father John Adie said: “The Gallatown is like a village and is full of good people who have known Darren all his life.

“These people will understand how devastated we are that Darren died.

“He was only 42. The family have lost a son, a brother, a nephew and an uncle.

“Darren’s kids, a son aged seven and a daughter aged nine, have lost a father.

“We need to know what led to our son dying on Tweed Avenue that Saturday.

“I speak for Darren’s family when I say we are very grateful to the police for their continued support and assistance since Darren’s death.”
