321 fish landed at fundraiser

-

It has been a changeable week at FORBES OF KINGENNIE with cold east winds and clear skies followed by heavy rain.

On Sunday a fundraising competition was held for the Scottish Stillwater Fly Fishing team’s international in Wales next week.

The competitors were met with fine conditions in the morning followed by some nasty showers in the afternoon.

The fish clearly didn’t mind as by the end of the day the 17 competitors had landed an incredible 321 fish between them, an average of 18.8 fish each.

Tyler Hay finished first with 30 fish from seven pegs. Second was Kevin Neri with 24 fish while third place was taken by Robert Mclay with 23 fish.

There were 170 fish caught from the Boathouse and 151 from the Burnside, with the best rainbow estimated at around 12lb with lots in the 5-8lb range. Chris McAllister had the best brown estimated at 5lb.

The best method on the day was the “bung” with a mix of squirmys, cat bugs and blobs taking a lot of fish. Different coloured lures on a slow glass also did well.

During the week the catches were fairly consistent on the fly ponds.

R Soave had four for 9lb from the Burnside on a nomad and Mr Wales put back 14 on a black blob in the Boathouse.

The Woodside is still fishing really well with fish spread out all over the pond. Last week 71 anglers landed 129 fish for a total of 148lb with the best caught by Mr Chalmers weighing 6lb 6oz. The Bankside Pool is currently closed for excavation works.

The weather again took its toll at MONIKIE with no boats out on Friday or Saturday.

However, those who braved the elements earlier in the week had good sport, with some top notch returns.

Notable catches included: Leslie and Glenrothes AC, three boats on the Island taking 17 fish for 37lb 9oz, with three rainbows returned, and one brown at 3lb 8oz; D Anderson, one rainbow for 4lb 13oz on the Island; R Cameron and D Shaw, five rainbows for 9lb 4oz on the Island; H and M Anderson, seven, 15lb 11oz on the North; J Stephen, five for 10lb on the Island and L Irvine and M Rose, five for 13lb 7oz on the Island. Monikie is open daily until November 12. Call 01382 370300 for bookings.

Fishing at RESCOBIE LOCH has slowed down with the end of the season fast approaching.

There has been some clubs out and some anglers catching the limit of four fish.

Anglers should remember that all brown trout should be returned as the season is over.

October fish of the month leader is Bob Cox with a rainbow of 5lb.

Club catches: Newtyle and Meigle AC, eight for 28lb 8oz; ABCD, 10 for 27lb 4oz; Balgay AC, six for 21lb 3oz.

Anglers catching the four-fish limit: Lee Anderson, 15lb; Joe Westland, 13lb; Gilbert Cheetham, 12lb 12oz; Pat Grey, 12lb 8oz; Maggie Norrie, 11lb 8oz; Gordon Armstrong, 11lb.
