Tale of tragedy of the trenches
A celebration of the human spirit will take to the stage.
The Man Who Followed His Legs (And Kept On Walking) is a co-production between Fife Cultural Trust and Wee Stories.
Written and directed by Iain Johnstone, the performance is a celebration of human resilience, following the story of two young Scottish coalminers’ experience of the First World War.
The death, loss and mayhem of the trenches forces Johnny to follow his legs (and keep on walking) to rediscover a reason for living.
Wee Stories brings its brand of storytelling to this production, based on the involvement of the footballing battalion in the Battle of the Somme.
The production recognises the human cost of this and other global conflicts while celebrating human resilience and the possibility of recovery from even the most terrible experiences.
Video images, puppetry, music and performance bring alive the enormity of this first global conflict for a new generation of young people and their families.
It also features extracts from Paul Wilson’s reconstruction of the Somme battlefield soundscape originally broadcast in the BBC’s documentary Pipers of the Trenches.
Performances will be staged at 7.30pm tomorrow in the Lochgelly Centre, on Saturday in Dunfermline’s Carnegie Hall, on Tuesday in the Adam Smith Theatre and on Wednesday in the Rothes Halls.
