A pedestrian died after being struck by a lorry on the A90 north of Dundee yesterday.

The northbound carriageway was closed to traffic heading north at Powrie Brae following the accident north of the Petterden junction, which occurred shortly after 3pm.

Traffic was diverted through Tealing, but the incident caused tailbacks stretching from Powrie Brae to Dundee.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We are currently in attendance after a road traffic collision on the A90 near to Petterden at 3pm today involving a lorry and a male pedestrian.

“Tragically, the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. Next of kin have been informed. His details will not be released until he has been formally identified.”

It was the second incident to cause tailbacks on the Kingsway yesterday.

A collision between a car and a lorry caused chaos during morning rush hour.

The crash involving a red Seat and a lorry from the Czech Republic occurred at the junction between the Kingsway and Old Glamis Road, near Dundee and Angus College, around 8am.

Police and ambulance crews attended the scene with a major effort to rescue the occupant of the car on the eastbound carriageway.

The car spun round so it was facing in the wrong direction and collided with a metal barrier at the side of the road.

Both drivers walked away without significant injuries.

The incident caused major delays, with tailbacks stretching to the Kingsway West Retail Park.

There was also congestion on Clepington Road as drivers sought to avoid the Kingsway. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said no one had been injured, and the road was fully reopened shortly before 11.45am.
