Archibald settles for silver
Scottish Olympic champion Katie Archibald has added another medal to her collection with a silver at the European Track Championships in Paris.
Archibald, who struck gold in Rio as part of the team pursuit squad, was narrowly beaten by Kirsten Wild of the Netherlands in the women’s elimination race.
Archibald’s medal was the first for Great Britain at the Championships and she could win more as the Scot also goes in the individual pursuit and the omnium later in the week.
Archibald told British Cycling: “My legs felt good. I’m saying I’m happy with silver, but people are really (only) happy with gold.”
The men’s team pursuit squad qualified in a slightly disappointing sixth place, setting up a semi-final against Italy while the women’s squad qualified in third place and will next face Russia.
