A new music festival will be held at Fife Airport in Glenrothes next year, it has been announced.

The May-Day Festival on Sunday April 30 promises a wide variety of music, from international acts to the best home-grown Scottish talent.

It will include seven stages of music, stalls, and a fun fair.

Fife Council has awarded organisers Phase 4 Events £5,000 to support plans for the one-day festival, which could attract around 5,000 music fans and generate an estimated £185,000 to the local economy.

Festival organiser Jason Frew said: “May-Day Festival is set to be a spectacular addition to the national festival calendar and will bring the biggest acts and the newest talent from across the globe to Fife Airport in Glenrothes.”

Organisers say more details about the line-up will be released by the end of the year. Early bird tickets are already on sale from Skiddle, Ticket Web, Ticket Scotland and Eventbright or via the festival website maydayfestival.co.uk.

Councillor Bill Brown, chairman of Glenrothes area committee, said he was delighted to see a new event in Scotland’s calendar staged in Glenrothes at Fife Airport.

“This is a really versatile location and it will be very interesting to see the events on the airfield, in the aircraft hangars and under cover, alongside a pop-up shopping village and caterers reflecting the best of local produce,” he said.

“I am also delighted that the organisers plan to source as much of their infrastructure, supplies and services from the immediate locality as possible, which will certainly provide a boost for local businesses.

“Everything from fencing to recycling is available in Fife, and partly why they chose this particular site.

“This new event will also help achieve our aims of creating an environment that is welcoming to visitors and new social and cultural activity.”

Early bird tickets are priced at £25 and are on sale now with no booking fee.

Tickets will soon revert to £32 for a standard ticket and £45 for VIP.
