Mining heritage garden project takes step forward
The second phase of the popular mining heritage garden in Townhill will be created sooner than expected.
Townhill Community Council has concluded talks for phase two of the heritage garden in the park. The contract should be completed by spring and will consist of a pathway adjoining the existing garden. This will lead to a seated area which will be incorporated into a windbreak designed to replicate a coalface, with a central floral cairn featuring as the hub for a pithead wheel graphic.
Chairman Ronnie Cowan said the Common Good Fund had pledged funding for this “imaginative” project, while a contribution from the Coal Industry Special Welfare Fund brought the completion date for this initiative forward.
