Lefebvre delays naming team as Stars hit by injuries to key men

-

Dundee Stars coach Marc Lefebvre will leave his team selection until the last minute ahead of tonight’s crucial Challenge Cup quarter-final first-leg tie with Elite League pacesetters Cardiff Devils.

The coach has five key men injured but ruled out any new singings to bolster his threadbare squad due to budget constraints.

“We do not have the depth in our budget like Sheffield (Steelers) or Nottingham (Panthers),” Lefebvre said.

“We’ve got injuries which we didn’t have last season, but my job is to get as much out of the players I have as I can.”

He urged his depleted squad to get into play-off mode for this crucial clash and there is history as Cardiff dumped Dundee out of the competition at the same stage last season.

The coach, who hailed teenage stars Ben Edmonds and Kris Inglis, said: “It’s going to be a huge ask but we want to progress against a team with six straight wins. We have to get up for this and we need to click into play-off mode here.”
