Brother due in court following fire death

Police have arrested the brother of a man who died in a house fire in Milngavie on New Year’s Day.

Cameron Logan, 23, died in the blaze, while his partner, Rebecca Williams, 24, who comes originally from Fife, was seriously injured.

Blair Logan, 26, has been arrested in connection with his brother’s death and the alleged attempted murder of his parents, who are both 54, and Ms Williams.

He is expected to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court today.

The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of the new year.

Miss Williams had been celebratin­g Hogmanay with her partner at a party in a nearby house before they returned to his family home several hours before the fire started.

Mr Logan perished in the blaze which broke out at around 7.25am in the family home in Milngavie on January 1.

Ms Williams, who is better known as Bex, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

The journalist, who works with Global Radio, is still being treated in hospital for her injuries.

She was pulled from the blaze by her boyfriend’s father.

But he was beaten back by flames and had been unable to get back into the family home to save his son.

Mr Logan’s parents, David and Cathy, were also treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire also claimed the life of the family pet dog, Gomez.

It was only days ago that Ms Williams, whose family home is in Wormit, was well enough to speak to detectives who have been investigat­ing the blaze.

Over the weekend Police Scotland confirmed: “A 26-yearold man has been arrested and is currently detained in police custody in connection with the death of a 23-year-old man and the alleged attempted murder of a 24-year-old woman, a 54-yearold woman and a 54-year-old man on January 1 2017 in Achray Place, Milngavie.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
