Ensure good fortune
“I was interested to read about the Scottish superstitions mentioned in Friday’s Craigie column,” emails Graham Watson of Scone.
“One that was not mentioned but I well remember from my grandmother’s day was that of giving a bent silver 3d. or 6d. coin (old money), to a girl who was about to be married to ensure good fortune in her future married life.
“My mother did this and I have too on several occasions. Does anybody else remember this custom?”
