Dunfermline’s eastern expansion has provided thousands of families with new homes but it is not in any danger of being made a Unesco World Heritage Site.
The area contributed to Dunfermline being described in the 2005 Lonely Planet guide as “a depressing sprawl of suburbia, home to Edinburgh commuters.”
While there is nothing wrong with Edinburgh commuters taking advantage of Fife’s lower house prices, Stirling Developments said there are lessons to be learned from such an approach to town planning.
The Broomhall proposals have the ambitious aim of “paying homage to this important landscape and its heritage” in developing land owned by the Earl of Elgin, who is a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce.
However, as with any development, the issues of healthcare provision, school places and road safety will be at the forefront of residents’ minds when responding to the public consultation.
