Plans to develop former factory site ‘would rid town of eyesore’

-

A dilapidated former Fife factory could be transformed into flats under new plans.

A planning application has been lodged with Fife Council to transform the site at 254 High Street, Leslie, into seven residential properties.

The building has been empty for several years and has fallen into a state of disrepair.

Prominently located opposite St Mary’s Church and its iconic clock tower, an earlier application had sought to form nine flats. However, this has since been revised down to seven.

Jan Wincott, chairwoman of Leslie Community Council, said that developing the site would rid the town of an eyesore, but that details, particularly around parking for the new properties, would be important.

“In principal, the community council is supportive of doing something to that site as it has been derelict for many years now,” said Mrs Wincott.

“We will look at the detailed plans for the site, particularly parking issues, and the community council will then have a further view on the plans. “Renovation of the building can only improve the High Street. “Having that space directly opposite the church has been a long-term source of complaints.”

Planning officers are expected to decide on the planning application in the spring.
