Morney ready to take wing at Wincanton

RACING: Hike in weight should not halt progress of eight-year-old

MORNEY WING can add to his win at Plumpton earlier in the month by lifting the Higos Insurance Services Somerset National at Wincanton.

Charlie Mann immediately set his sights on this event after his eight-yearold powered to victory in the Sussex National on his most recent start.

While his Plumpton success was something of a surprise at odds of 12-1, he did have some nice bits of form in the book already this season, most notably when finishing third behind Rocky Creek in the London National at Sandown last month.

The winner was particularly well rated at the time, so Morney Wing deserved plenty of credit for going down by just under three lengths after a mistake two out took its toll.

He made amends at Plumpton, though, coming home a length and three-quarters clear but looking excellent value for that winning distance.

A 5lb hike in the weights does not look unreasonable, and Morney Wing should thrive for another marathon trip.

KENTFORD MYTH is the pick in the mares’ handicap chase after striking gold in some style at this track on Boxing Day.

Her jumping was far from perfect on that occasion but she still had enough in the tank to win by seven lengths on her chasing bow.

It would be fair to expect some improvement on the fencing front with another month on the schooling grounds under her belt.

Meanwhile, STILL BELIEVING was a 10-length winner at Cheltenham before Christmas, and it is hard to ignore her claims at Ludlow.

A strong pace at Prestbury Park seemingly brought out the best in her and her 10-length victory was certainly eye-catching.
