Man dies and women injured in Fife crash

POLICE: Busy road was closed for hours after fatal three-vehicle collision

Tragedy returned to Fife’s roads yesterday after a three-car crash claimed the life of a male driver.

The incident happened on the A91 between Guardbridge and St Andrews shortly after 3pm, with police confirming that the driver of a silver Mini had died at the scene.

Two women were taken to Ninewells Hospital, with one described as having sustained serious injuries. Police remained at the scene well into the night, closing off the road as crash investigators began to piece together the events surrounding the fatal collision.

Last night Sergeant Nicola Young of Fife road policing unit said: “Anyone who witnessed this incident or saw any of the vehicles prior to the collision is urged to contact the police.”

A young Mearns mother has been named as the victim of a weekend road tragedy that led to her 13-month-old daughter being airlifted to hospital.

Hannah Davies died at the scene of Saturday morning’s accident on the A92 between Inverbervie and Kinneff.

Her black Nissan Note was the only vehicle involved in the incident, and came to rest on its roof in a roadside field.

Her 13-month-old daughter was also in the car at the time and was airlifted to the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries.

Police said the child had been reunited with her family and was “safe and well”.

In a statement released through Police Scotland yesterday afternoon, Hannah’s family paid tribute to those who had stopped at the crash scene, near Largie Farm.

They said: “We would like to thank the folk who stopped to try and help our daughter as well as the emergency services and the hospital.”

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash just before 11am, with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews from Stonehaven and Laurencekirk in attendance.

The hatchback came to rest down an embankment beside the northbound carriageway.

The coastal route remained closed for several hours while a full investigation into the possible circumstances of the crash was carried out.

Sergeant Malcolm Kinross of Police Scotland’s north-east division road policing unit said: “First of all, I would say that all our thoughts are with the friends and family of Hannah at this utterly devastating time.

“I would like to thank everyone who assisted at the scene.

“Our investigation is still at an early stage and I am appealing for anyone who was aware of a black Nissan Note at around 10.50am on Saturday on the A92 Inverbervie to Kinneff road, to contact the Police on 101.”
