Glens move into second after comfortable win over Harris

-

Glenrothes remain in the BT Caledonia Division One title race after turning on the style in the second half of their match against Harris FP at Elliott Road to emerge as 42-0 winners.

The Elliott Road men performed well in the first half and reached the break only 14-0 in arrears after Cammy Goodall and Ross Hutchison touched down for the Fifers and Kain Duguid added both conversions.

However, helped by an injury crisis that meant Harris finished the match with only 13 players, the visitors clicked through the gears after the restart.

Hutchison claimed his second try and Gavin Emerson, Willie Maxwell and Barry Crookston scored one each, with Duguid banging over all four conversions to complete the win.

The result leaves Glenrothes in second place, four points behind Gordonians, although the Aberdeen men have two games in hand.

Caithness occupy third place, one point behind Glenrothes, after chalking up a 32-12 success at home to Alloa.

Dunfermline had to fight back from being 15-0 adrift to post a comfortable 48-15 win away to Carnoustie. David Lovelock led the way for the visitors with three tries, as the Fifers dominated the second half.

The tightest finish of the day came in the match between Aberdeen Wanderers and Strathmore, with the Inchmacoble men squeezing home 33-31.

There were celebrations at Glensburgh after coach Craig Deacons led Grangemouth Stags to the Division Two (Midlands) title.

Stags secured their success with a 31-8 win over nearest challengers Hillfoots.

Adam Hind set the ball rolling with the first touchdown of the afternoon, helping Stags reach the break with a 21-3 lead.

They kicked on in the second period to make sure of the bonus point win and with it the silverware.

Hillfoots remain second, although their advantage over Falkirk seconds has been trimmed to three points with three matches to play after Falkirk racked up the day’s biggest score when they saw off Panmure 76-26.

Fourth-placed Blairgowrie extended their winning run to three games when they returned from the trip to face Crieff and Strathearn with a 45-5 victory to their credit.

The day’s other match saw Kirkcaldy seconds beat basement side Kinross 32-24.

Dundee University Medics moved to the top of Division Three Midlands (North) after beating the Angus Development side 54-25 in the day’s only fixture, a result that sees the students replace Madras in pole position.
