Dundee High turn on the style with Musselburgh hammering

-

Dundee HSFP demolished Musselburgh 45-15 at Stoneyhill on Saturday to sit seventh in BT National League 1 and after such a convincing performance all at Mayfield must be asking the question as to why they have not done better this season.

It was a much closer contest when Burgh pitched up in Dundee in October and the scoreline was much narrower at 38-25 in Dundee’s favour, so to go to Stoneyhill and rack up that sort of win is hugely frustrating.

Dundee led 19-8 at half-time and ran in seven tries with Ewan Fox grabbing a brace, full-back Fraser McKay, lock George Arnott, wing Ryan Fairweather, flanker Colin Strachan and Kaleem Baretto claiming one apiece and no 10 Fox kicking five conversions.

Dundee have a couple of games in hand over the sides above them, so with six games left to play they could well improve on that midtable slot – then contemplate what might have been.

No such thoughts at Duffus Park however, where Howe of Fife have to seriously consider the drop after going down 34-5 at Raeburn Place against promotion contenders Edinburgh Accies. Howe weren’t out of it at half-time, trailing only 15-0 but Accies turned the screw, clinched the bonus point and left Howe with only a solitary try from centre Fraser Ellison.

Preston Lodge completed the double over Kirkcaldy in BT National 2 on Saturday with a 35-26 success at Pennypit.

The Fife outfit are only one place above the drop zone – but sit 16 points ahead of second bottom Ardrossan, while Hillhead Jordanhill look destined for relegation.

Kirkcaldy, who lost 14-7 to Preston Lodge at Beveridge Park earlier in the season, scored a try bonus thanks to scores from Quenten Sanft, Steven Laird, Craig Letham and Danny Jennings.

Perthshire crashed 46-0 away to promotion-chasing Lasswade in a BT National 3 clash. To make matters worse for the North Inch men, fourth-bottom Dalziel beat Orkney to go 12 points ahead of Shire, leaving them in deep relegation trouble.
