Player boss to rescue for Swifts

-

Jeanfield Swifts threw away a two-goal lead and were ultimately grateful for a late Ross Gunnion equaliser to take a point from a 3-3 draw with Broxburn Athletic at Riverside Stadium.

A Lewis Baker double had given the Perth side a cushion at the break but two goals from Zander Miller and a Nick Locke strike midway through the second half looked to have won the game for the visitors until player/manager Gunnion popped up four minutes from time to equalise.

Hill of Beath took a valuable three points from their visit to Newtongrange Star that does nothing to help the home side’s fight against relegation.

Callum Adamson put Haws in front on 18 minutes before Adam Moffat made it 2-0. Errol Douglas pulled a goal back for Star on 52 minutes but Greg Smith restored the cushion for the Fife side with 20 minutes left.

Newtongrange were reduced to 10 men when Dale Richardson was shown a red card on 75 minutes but the home side were given hope on 79 minutes when Neil Martyniuk pulled a second goal back but Bobby Wilson’s side held out for their first win in five games.

A period of 10 minutes in the first half that saw four goals was the highlight in an otherwise poor encounter at Thomson Park as Lochee United comfortably beat Camelon 4-0.

In the Premier League, Kennoway Star Hearts’ promotion hopes took a dunt at Creamery Park as the Fife side, despite leading, went down 3-1 to an impressive Bathgate Thistle.

Kyle Wilson put the leaders in front on 37 minutes as Alec Davidson’s side led at the break.

The second half was a different matter as the home side took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored through David Taylor, JJ Hendersonand Darren Dalrymple.

The Fife side remain at the top, however, after second placed Forfar West End failed to take advantage by losing 2-1 to Tranent.

Tayport were emphatic winners at Downfield as they finally put a performance together for 90 minutes in the league, running out 5-1 winners.

Dale Reid put John Ovenstone’s side in front on nine minutes before Gary Sutherland celebrated his birthday with a second on 28 minutes. Jamie Mackie hit Port’s third 10 minutes before the break. Sergio Alvarez capped a great performance in midfield with a fourth on 53 minutes before Marc O’Leary pulled one back for the Spiders.

The birthday boy restored Tayport’s four-goal advantage with his second goal with nine minutes left.

Craig Morrison’s St Andrews United have been plunged back into relegation trouble after they went down 2-0 to Glenrothes at Barnetts Park.

Glens player/manager John Martin put his side in front and Josh McPhie completed the win for the visitors.

Saints have just seven games left and have played more games than those below them. The result eases any concerns that Glenrothes had about relegation.
