Expanded Fife support project helps to give women WINGS

-

Fife women have celebrated the achievements of the WINGS project.

The project for women who offend started off as a one-stop shop in Levenmouth and has since expanded across Fife.

Team manager Angela Simpson said: “We run WINGS over five bases throughout Fife, where women can access services and participate in group activities for the purpose of reducing reoffending.

“We help them to build their confidence and esteem, improve their health and wellbeing and support them to make positive changes to their lifestyle.”

One recent event has been a Come Dine with Me-style initiative where each base invited one other.

“The women were involved in the planning and budgeting,” Angela said. “They also prepared the invitations and menus and cooked and served the meals. It was great fun and a brilliant success for the women involved.”

Alexandra Smith and Kerry Ward both took part.

Alexandra, who explained education was also on offer, said: “What we get from WINGS is a great support system that offers us a sense of wellbeing and pride in ourselves.

“They offer support for any kind of issues we have.”

Kerry said: “We learn new skills that will help us better our lives and help with our confidence. The women are very caring and helpful with any kind of problem, be it just life problems or legal.

“For anyone referred to WINGS all I can say is please do not feel scared or worried about attending the group, as the women workers make you feel very welcome and at ease.”
