Dundee United’s flamboyant Frenchman Tony Andreu has been praised for his work ethic.

Andreu was the architect of much of the Tangerines’ creative play as they reached the final of the Irn-Bru Cup by beating Queen of the South 3-2 at Palmerston on Saturday.

His goal – United’s third – was an exquisite finish that proved to be the highlight of the semi-final.

However, Tannadice manager Ray McKinnon was also keen to stress how much effort Andreu puts in to his performances.

McKinnon said: “Tony is a really talented player but, for all that talent and his goals for us this season, his workrate off the ball is fantastic.

“He works very hard for the team and you saw that again on Saturday.

“He has played almost every game since he came to the club and he is a special player.

“If you can get the ball to him in the right areas he is very dangerous.

“He is a top lad and you saw what he was capable of with our third goal.”

The Tangerines are waiting to get the date and venue confirmed for their final against St Mirren.
