Court wrangle could affect Muskies’ placing

-

Tayside Musketeers women are continuing to make a strong finish to the Scottish League programme with their latest win a satisfying 18-point home success over Edinburgh side Polonia Phoenix.

The 64-46 win – sweet revenge for a narrow away defeat in the first half of the season – was notable for a season-high shooting performance of 22 points by former Scottish internationalist Paula Schweikert-Foster.

“Paula also did well on the offensive rebounds,” said coach Donnie MacDonald, whose main go-to player Yhana Van Wees did not let him down either, contributing 14 points, a huge 18 rebounds and six assists.

Muskies’ chances of a high finish – maybe even second – in the league and subsequent championship play-offs may depend, however, on a possible court battle, but not one to be decided on a basketball court.

Champions Edinburgh Kool Kats, already sure of the title, slipped up away in their final scheduled game to Falkirk Fury, who could now still pip Muskies to the runners-up spot and second seeding in the play-offs.

Fury, though, have an unplayed game with Glasgow Rocks still pending and the subject of a rules wrangle which has already gone to appeal. If the decision goes against Fury they will probably be docked both points.
