Double gold for Hattersley at nationals
It is all systems go for the World Aquatics Championship for Perth Olympian Camilla Hattersley after she left last weekend’s BUCS Nationals clutching two gold medals.
Former Perth City Swim Club member Hattersley was in action at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge for the 2017 British Universities and Colleges Sport competition, the UK’s largest annual multisport event, with more than 6,000 students participating across three days of sport.
Although she finished behind Danielle Huskisson and double Rio 2016 silver medallist Jazz Carlin in the 800m and 400m freestyle, the duo were both guests of British Swimming, meaning 21-yearold Hattersley picked up two gold medals.
This is the start of a busy year for former Perth Academy pupil Hattersley as she bids to reach Budapest in July for the World Championships.
“I’m happy to get a medal, but I wasn’t happy with my times,” said Hattersley, who was representing Glasgow University.
“I wanted to be quite a bit faster so hopefully I can improve on that a lot going forward. It’s just tiredness from training, I’m not feeling too fresh so hopefully when I rest a bit I’ll go a little faster.”
Next up for Hattersley is the Edinburgh International meet at the start of March.
BUCS is the national governing body for Higher Education sport in the UK, organising leagues and competitions for more than 150 institutions across 52 different sports.
