Kerr living the dream: Soutar

-

Cammy Kerr is “living the dream”, according to a former Dundee player who remembers the Dark Blues’ full-back as a starry-eyed ball-boy.

Kerr was a Dundee hero on Sunday afternoon, helping Paul Hartley’s team to a famous 2-1 win over Rangers.

“He’s living the dream having supported the club,” said Soutar.

“I actually remember going into the laundry one day before a big game to get something before kick-off when Cammy was a ball-boy,” said Soutar.

“Even back then, you could tell he had the desire to play for Dundee and that’s what he was fully focused on. Nothing was going to distract him.

“He is a role model to any youngster – not just at Dundee but across the country.

“Cammy is the same guy he was then as a ball-boy and club mascot.

“You’ll never find him getting too big for his boots. Away from the park, he’s the first guy to attend club functions and make appearances at supporter events.

“Nothing will ever go to his head and you can tell he just loves playing for his local team. I was so pleased to see him play the way he did against Rangers.

“Nobody deserves their success more.”

Kerr, who went on loan to Peterhead before making his breakthrough at Dundee, could end up forcing his way into Scotland squads later in his career, Soutar believes.

He said: “If he keeps going like this, there’s every chance he’ll get himself into contention for Scotland at some point.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if other clubs come calling within the next year or two because he’s got all the attributes of a modern-day right-back.”
