Some of the biggest names in music, including Mark Ronson and Basement Jaxx, will perform at Dundee’s new music festival this summer.

Other high-profile acts, including Rudimental and Clean Bandit, were announced for the Carnival 56 festival at Camperdown Park.

Mark Ronson produced Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black and his song, Uptown Funk, featuring Bruno Mars, was a number one in both the UK and US.

Dundee City Council’s city development convener Will Dawson said: “I think the last time we saw headliners like Mark Ronson in Dundee was the Radio 1 Big Weekend.

“It’s great to see events like this coming to the city.

“It will mean more visitors who will be spending money in shops and hotels and will help put the city on the map.”

He added: “I think this is probably the most exciting time for live music in the city with Carnival 56 and the concerts at Slessor Gardens.”

The festival will take place on August 12 and 13.

There will be five live music areas, including a main stage, big top tent and VIP area, along with bars and food concessions.

Festival organisers hope around 15,000 people will attend each day, although they applied to Dundee City Council for a daily capacity of 19,999.

Pre-sale registration for tickets will start at 9am tomorrow, while tickets will go on general sale on Monday morning.

Festival organiser Craig Blyth said: “I’m absolutely delighted at how the line-up has come together.”
