Fife army base to open gates to give glimpse of life in the forces

-

Leuchars Station is to open its gates the public so they can experience life at the army base, formerly RAF Leuchars.

A military village will be set up and there will be music, marching bands, military displays and Highland dancing.

People will be able to dress up as soldiers, attempt a 100ft assault course, browse a craft trade hangar and see supercars up close.

There will also be the chance to be photographed with members of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.

As well as the SCOTS Guards, the base is home to a number of regular and reserve units.

The open day on Saturday June 3 will be held in Waterloo Lines, the eastern side of the camp.

It is aimed at welcoming members of the public to the station and celebrating and supporting the armed forces in Fife.

Susan Budd, Leuchars Station community support officer and event organiser, said: “The station is thrilled to be able to put this event on for our families at Leuchars and the public.

“It is an ideal opportunity for the residents of Fife and farther afield to come onto the station itself and experience and learn more about what we do here at Leuchars Station as well as enjoying all of the other entertainment provided.”

The event will raise money for the ABF The Soldiers Charity and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.
