Landmark demolition postponed
Work due to start next week to demolish a historic Fife landmark has been postponed.
Demolition of the chimney at the former Smith Anderson building in Falkland was expected to start on Monday.
However, the equipment needed to demolish the chimney safely needs a very solid base, which has not yet been formed.
The company expects the destruction of the chimney will now take place in around two to three weeks.
The factory, known as St John’s Works, has been a landmark in the village since 1892.
It was originally a cotton mill, but latterly operated as a paper bag manufacturer.
Work has progressed since the end of last year on demolishing the empty buildings that once employed many people in the area.
