Not sure where to start on your dress hunt? We take a look at some of the top trends in wedding gowns for 2017
High-necked, V-necked, colourful or caped, we guide you through the key trends in gowns for 2017.
For a truly high fashion look, wedding dresses featuring a high neckline are big news for 2017. Scalloped lace lends a regal vibe, while sleek satin can achieve an ultra-modern look. With so much detail around your neck, ditch the idea of a necklace in favour of some fabulous earrings and show off the beautiful styling by sweeping your hair into an updo. Deep V neckline If the high neckline seems too stuffy, why not consider the opposite end of the spectrum with a truly plunging Vnecked gown. These were big news on the catwalks but probably aren’t for the fainthearted. Worn well, it can be an incredibly flattering shape and you can add scalloped lace or floral applique for a more modest, feminine look. Just make sure the correct undergarments are on hand to support this fashion statement. Cute capes A lovely alternative to a veil, a bridal cape or short capelet is also a great way to cover up arms. The look will add another dimension to your gown but still feels really on trend. If you choose to wear a cape for your ceremony, you can create a change of look either after the ceremony or before the dancing starts by taking it off to reveal the full impact of your gown. Feathered friends A fun alternative to lace or applique work, feathers have been featuring on wedding gowns for a few seasons now. Imagine wispy plumes, such as delicate ostrich features, gently moving as you walk down the aisle or making an impact during your first dance. Features can lift a gown with a simple silhouette – go for the wow of a fully feathered skirt or the more subtle approach of a few plumes. Clever colour The days of wedding gowns being restricted to a traditional palette of whites and ivories are long gone, with many brides choosing to embrace a splash of colour on their wedding day. A wedding dress in a beautiful, subtle rose or even yellow or blue will be sure to turn heads. Choose a colour that truly complements your skin tone for a beautiful bridal look that you, your guests – and the chap waiting at the altar – will love.
