Green light sought for first phase of Gilliesfauld housing scheme
Plans have been lodged for the construction of the first of up to 168 new houses at the western entrance to Cupar.
Builder A&J Stephen wants planning permission for 55 houses at Gilliesfauld West, the development’s first phase.
If given the go-ahead, the scheme will also see provision of employment land and a roundabout and public art, forming a new town gateway.
Houses at Gilliesfauld West, south of the A91 and west of Drum Road, would form part of the 1,400 new homes in Fife’s development plan for Cupar, most of them in Cupar North.
The applicant’s planning consultant, Emac Planning, said the aim was to create a highquality, sustainable, mixed-use neighbourhood extension to the west of Cupar.
Its statement to Fife Council read: “The allocation by Fife Council for up to 168 new homes and employment land at Gilliesfaulds West is considered to bring social benefits, not only in terms of providing for housing need, by improving the range and market choice, but also in terms of attracting new jobs from the new employment site and during the construction period.
“The proposal will also deliver much-needed affordable housing, equating to 20% of the total provision across the site.”
It also said reduction in volume of an embankment will require an estimated 1,000 lorry trips.
Perth-based A&J Stephen is in talks with Kingdom Housing Association regarding early provision of affordable housing.
A masterplan submitted with the planning application states further planning applications will be submitted at a later date for the second phase of housing and employment land.
