This Sunday marks the 20th anniversary of the Scottish Road Relay Championships at Livingston where 97 men’s teams contest the six-stage race and 61 women’s teams the four-stage event. Cambuslang headed Central AC in the men’s championship last year, while Central claimed the women’s title ahead of Edinburgh AC. Central AC name Andrew Butchart among their entry list. And such is the early season form of the Scottish 3,000m and 5,000m record holder, it would come as no surprise if the course record came in for revision. As well as Cambuslang there are strong entries from Shettleston, Inverclyde and Corstorphine. Central, Edinburgh, Edinburgh University, Fife AC, Hunters Bog Trotters, Lothian RC, Kilbarchan and Metro Aberdeen should all figure in the race for women’s honours. This weekend Anna Macfadyen (Forres Harriers) and Gillian Black (VPGlasgow) are in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Under-20 team at the World Cross-Country Championships in Kampala, Uganda. The two were named in the team by British Athletics after finishing one-two at the recent UK Inter-Counties CrossCountry in Loughborough. In the final domestic cross-country of the season, Scotland sends 24 athletes to Port Talbot to contest tomorrow’s Home Countries International Cross-Country.
