Much at steak for town’s butchers

-

The pie’s the limit for Buckhaven’s upper crust today.

The town’s three butchers – R&I Moreland, WF Stark and Stuart’s of Buckhaven – will be battling it out for the title of Buckhynd’s best steak pie as part of a Spring Fling community day organised by local charity, Clear.

The competition will be judged by youngsters and tasting samples will be available before the trophy is presented.

The event at the community centre in Kinnear Street will also mark the culmination of the Buckhaven Links community planning exercise and views gathered from people will be on display for final comments.

It will lead to the creation of a masterplan for the town, focusing on the foreshore, the town centre and connecting links.

Running from 10am till 3pm, the Spring Fling is free and will include a range of stalls and activities including live music, food, face painting, arts and crafts and children’s entertainment.

Clear spokesman Ken Haig urged people to drop in and added: “It is vital to involve the youth and to encourage the public to support our local shops, including our three butchers, which are part of Buckhaven’s regeneration.

“Where else can you get three award-winning butchers offering quality Scottish products all within a stone’s throw of one another?”
