Drugs alert issued after teenage boy takes ill
Quantity of purple pills discovered at an address in town
A drugs alert has gone out to parents after a 14-year-old boy fell ill earlier this week.
The teenager was taken to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital on Tuesday and discharged after treatment.
The following day police discovered a quantity of tablets which had been bought online at a house in the town and they are investigating whether they are linked to the boy’s illness.
Officers would not confirm whether the as yet unidentified drugs were found at the youngster’s own address.
Kirkcaldy’s four high schools have sent out alerts to parents by text and email warning them that the purple pills may be in circulation among teenagers.
The message was distributed at the request of the police.
It reads: “The tablets, which were purchased online, are small, round and purple-coloured pills and are yet to be identified.
“If you suspect that your child may have taken any of these you should seek immediate medical attention for them.”
A police spokesman confirmed the description of the tablets and added: “Anyone who thinks they have taken one of these is advised to seek immediate medical attention.
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish if the discovery of these pills and the boy’s illness are linked.”
No-one has been charged following the discovery.
Anyone with information about the tablets is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
