Cescon fit as Stars bid to make vital point

-

Dundee Stars coach Marc Lefebvre has confirmed Craig Cescon will be fit for this weekend’s crucial double-header with Fife Flyers.

Cescon suffered an eye injury in a recent clash between Stars and their arch-rivals from Fife.

The match-up completes the regular season for both clubs but Fife have already qualified for the end-of-season play-off showcase, while the Stars need a point to be confirmed in the top eight.

The Tayside team have 44 points from 50 games, while Fife have 51 from the same number of starts and could go above fifth-placed Braehead if Clan lose back-to-back to Edinburgh Capitals and Fife beat Dundee twice.

Lefebvre admitted he did not expect Manchester Storm to win 3-1 on Wednesday at Nottingham, but said: “We can’t control what goes on elsewhere. We have a job to do and that is to earn a point to take us through.

“It would be good if we could do the business at Kirkcaldy on Saturday.

“However, Fife will want to go into the play-offs strongly so we’re expecting two tough games.”

Meanwhile, two Fife players are in the GB under-18 ice hockey team.

Chad Smith, 18, of Glenrothes, and Calum Robertson, 16, of Kirkcaldy, are heading for the IIHF World Championships in South Korea from April 2-8.

Both boys play for Fife Falcons under-20s and Kirkcaldy Kestrels in the Scottish National League, with Chad also on Fife Flyers’ roster.
