Kelly strikes give Saints hope in bid to beat drop

SUPER LEAGUE: Carnoustie hit for five by Kelty Hearts for second time this season

- MARK JOHNSON

Jeanfield Swifts gave themselves hope of avoiding the drop from the Super League as they won 2-1 at Camelon, a result that pulls the Falkirk side back into the relegation scrap.

Camelon took the lead through Alan Docherty on 13 minutes but Ross Gunnion’s Swifts were level on 37 minutes through Daniel Kelly.

Docherty passed up the chance to send his side in at the break in front when he missed a penalty on 43 minutes.

Ten minutes into the second half Kelly hit his second and what proved to be the winner to claim three vital points for the visitors.

Carnoustie Panmure were hit for five for the second time this season by Kelty as they went down 5-1 at Laing Park.

Stuart Cargill got the title favourites on their way after five minutes before Gordon Macdonald drew Carnoustie level with a header just before the half hour. Cargill restored the lead just before half-time with a contender for goal of the season after great work by Stephen Husband.

Five minutes into the second half and Brian Ritchie increased the advantage, rising unhindered to head home before Craig Thomson hit a stunning drive that swerved around before hitting the top corner of Alan Cormack’s net.

Archie Campbell put a slightly unfair look to the scoreline with a fifth three minutes from time.

Dundonald Bluebell continued their excellent run of form with a 1-0 win over Hill of Beath in a fiercely-contested derby at Moorside Park.

The only goal of the game came from the spot after 75 minutes, scored by the league’s top scorer Lewis McKenzie.

Lochee United put another nail into the coffin of visitors Fauldhouse United with a 2-0 victory at Thomson Park.

The Bluebells took the lead right on half-time when a Paddy Deane effort was parried by Fauldhouse player-boss Jon Connolly and Jamie Montgomery reacted quickest to score from close range.

Reece Ritchie doubled the advantage on the hour-mark when he scored after good work from Deane once again. The win lifts Lochee above Carnoustie into the top half of the table.

McBookie.com East Premier League A share of the points from the early kickoff at Newbyres Park between Arniston Rangers and Forfar West End certainly benefited the Angus club more than their hosts. West End were the better team over the piece but failed to capitalise on Arniston being reduced to 10 men.

Glenrothes continued their rich vein of form with a 2-1 win at home to Dundee Violet. Scott Napier put the Fife side in front on 35 minutes only for Violet to level through Kevin Scott. Gavin Moffat preserved Glens’ good start under Willie Campbell with the winner.

Kennoway failed to follow up last week’s win over Sauchie as they were held to a 1-1 draw by St Andrews United at Treaton Park.

The home side took the lead from the spot through Kyle Wilson after Jason Quinn had been penalised but the visitors pulled level when Daryl Falconer converted a Ben Anthony cross. United had the better of the second half and but for a number of great saves by the Hearts keeper would have taken all three points.

A 76 th minute goal from Gary Sutherland was enough to give Tayport all three points from their trip to Tranent and lift them into the top half of the table.

The striker scored, after great work by Gavin Paterson, to claim three points and give Port their first league win in four games.
