Detectives hail conclusion of complex investigation

-

Coventry’s conviction brought with it a positive outcome for detectives who have worked on the Darren Adie murder case for more than 10 months.

The discovery of Mr Adie on Tweed Avenue on May 28 last year sparked a large-scale manhunt for his killer, with officers spending many thousands of hours trying to piece together Mr Adie’s final movements.

Mr Adie was a well-known face in the Gallatown area of Kirkcaldy and the police investigation relied on the community’s help as the net closed on Coventry, who was eventually taken into custody almost a month after the tragedy.

Following yesterday’s verdict, Detective Chief Inspector Raymond Brown paid tribute to Mr Adie’s family and friends.

He said: “The investigation into Darren’s murder was complex and Gordon Coventry’s efforts to evade justice caused the family unnecessary additional suffering.

“However, due to the diligence, skill and professionalism of the officers involved in the inquiry, coupled with the support and assistance from the local community, we were able to identify him as being responsible through protracted and detailed investigations.

“My thoughts today are with Darren’s family and friends who had to endure the most tragic of circumstances.

“I would like to thank them for their support during the investigation and although nothing can ever undo the wicked actions of Coventry, I hope this verdict brings them some sense of comfort.”
