An Angus man has been named locally as the victim of a weekend fatal road accident just a few miles from his home.

Police have yet to formally identify the motorcyclist whose Triumph machine was involved in a collision with a Hyundai Tucson on the B9113 Forfar to Montrose road near Fledmyre quarry around 4.15 on Sunday afternoon, but tributes have been paid to Letham man Jimmy Donald.

Mr Donald, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, a few miles east of Forfar.

Three occupants of the car were taken to Ninewells Hospital and treated for minor injuries before being released.

The incident was attended by Police Scotland, three ambulances, Tayside trauma team, a Helimed air ambulance and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

The road was closed in both directions for more than six hours as police carried out an investigation into the crash.

His family have not spoken about the tragedy, but online tributes have been paid to Mr Donald.

One woman said: “R.I.P. – you will be sadly missed.

“Thoughts with all concerned, you were a good man.”

Another tribute said: “One of the kindest people you would ever meet.”

A third well-wisher said: “No words at all. The best of the best is gone. He was the kindest person in the world.”

It is understood Mr Donald previously worked at Don & Low in Forfar and had studied at Dundee College.

The police have appealed for information about the crash.

“Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Angus,” a spokesman said.

“The collision happened about 4.30pm yesterday on the B9113 Forfar to Montrose road, near Fledmyre quarry, and involved a black Triumph motorcycle and a beige Hyundai motor car. The rider of the motorcycle was treated by Scottish Ambulance Service personnel but sadly died at the scene.

“Three occupants of the Hyundai car were taken to hospital and were released after treatment for minor injuries.

“Officers are appealing to witnesses who may have been travelling on the road and who may have seen either of the vehicles prior to the collision.”
