Anglers making the most of fine weather

-

Congratulations to Stuart Marklow for winning the Jim Bowman opening day competition at Lintrathen with a catch of four fish for 9lb 14oz.

The friendly memorial competition was fished on Sunday, with the water opening on the Saturday.

FORBES OF KINGENNIE has been busy with anglers taking advantage of the glorious weather.

Nymphs and buzzers have taken a lot of fish as well as fabs and at certain times the dry fly fishing has been good.

Some notable catches have been Mr Leslie with 24, with the best being a brown trout weighing 7lb, while Mr Burnett had a good day returning 13, his best a 9lb rainbow with Mr Green keeping four for 11lb and putting back two.

Mr Sherriff returned 10 caught, while Mr Soave had one for 6lb 8oz.

Mr Jones had two sessions, landing nine each time, with the best estimated at 12lb.

On Sunday 14 members of Raemoir Angling Club returned 111.

Mr Brown was top rod of the group with 27, while Mr Tait had 11 pulling black and green lures and Mr Watson had 12 on buzzers and a bloodworm.

The Woodside pool has been very busy over the last couple of weeks and the fishing has been good with lots of limit bags being taken.

Location has been very important with most of the fish being caught at the tail of the wind.

Mr Bicknell had four for 7lb 8oz, Mr Lawson four for 7lb 8oz and Mr Whiteford three for 7lb.

Kingennie has opened a new Blawearie Basin coarse fishing pool where fishing with a small float and hook with maggots has been successful.

Most fish caught have been the small roach and perch, with the biggest about 6-8oz but there are much bigger there to be caught.

If anyone has a child who would like to try fishing there is an Easter event this weekend at Forbes of Kingennie.

MONIKIE and CROMBIE fished very well last week with 89 anglers taking more than 358.

J Smith of the Canmore Club caught one at 3lb 11oz, while D Clark had a 4lb 9oz brown both off the Island.

Midge tip lines or floaters with cormorants, pheasant tail, traffic light buzzers, crunchers, snatchers and black hoppers or emergers were the most successful.
