Partick unveil £4m training ground plan

-

Alan Archibald says he is ready to put his English ambitions on hold after Partick Thistle announced plans to build a new £4 million training ground.

The Jags, with the help of Euromillions winners Colin and Christine Weir, have entered into an agreement which will see the club take control of a dedicated training base for the first time in its 140-year history.

They revealed their ambitious scheme for a state-of-the-art facility yesterday, just days after Archibald’s team secured a top-six finish and with it the Firhill side’s best league result in 26 years

Ross County defender Marcus Fraser has agreed a new one-year contract to remain at Dingwall until 2018.

The former Scotland under-21 internationalist has been a consistent performer for Jim McIntyre’s side, having made 82 appearances since joining from Celtic in January 2015.

The 22-year-old’s previous contract had been due to expire in the summer and although McIntyre reckons Fraser is capable of moving to a higher level, the Staggies manager believes he can still develop further at Victoria Park.

McIntyre said: “Marcus has done fantastically well and deserves it. He’s a good defender and he will get better and better with the more games he plays.

“We’ve got to remember that’s him just going into his third year of playing regular football. He’s doing great and we’re delighted he sees his future here.

“He’s a good player who is making steady progress in his career and he knows the best thing for him is to stay at least another year and play more games.

“He’s got ambitions of playing at the highest level possible, which I love. I don’t want players signing just to be here for the rest of their career, we want them to have ambition to play at a higher level and Marcus certainly has that.”

Hamilton have ripped up the contracts of defenders Jesus Garcia Tena and Dan Seaborne.

Accies say they have released the duo to allow them both to find new clubs.

Tena joined in 2013 from Livingston and made 76 appearances, while former Southampton, Coventry and Partick centre-back Seaborne joined last summer but has made just 13 appearances.
