ALLOA v BRECHIN

Five goals in five games secured Brechin City’s Andy Jackson the Ladbrokes League One Player of the Month award for March.

Now the former St Johnstone man wants to extend his impressive form in April to secure the Glebe Park men a play-off spot.

Brechin travel to Alloa this afternoon, with Jackson saying: “It’s good to get the recognition for scoring some goals, and we’ve done well lately. The manager let me know and I was delighted, but I just hope we can make the play-offs now.

“My aim is always double figures to start with. Once I get to 10, I aim for 15 and then take it from there.

“Obviously, I missed 10 or 11 games which dented that a little bit, but since I’ve came back I’ve done well.

“If I hadn’t been injured I could have hit 20 goals, which would have been amazing, but there are still four games left and I’ll hopefully get close to it.

“It’s in our own hands. We’re in the play-off spots just now. Alloa on Saturday is a big game, and I’d say it’ll take three wins from four to make sure we make it into the play-offs.”

Jackson has been with Brechin for five years and is in no rush to move on.

He added: “I’m 29 now and I’m just enjoying things at Brechin. It would depend what type of offer came in if I was going back to full-time football.

“It would probably need to be in the Premiership, but whether or not a team is willing to take a chance is another story.

“Having said that, I’m happy at Brechin. They’ve been good to me and I’m happy here just now, but you never know what could happen.”

The award was thoroughly deserved, according to manager Darren Dods.

“He was a big miss for us when he was out for a couple of months,” Dods said.

“But he’s been in great form recently. He was unlucky not to score last weekend and hopefully he can now go on another run,” Dods said.

“We’re still in the play-off places with four games to go. There are a lot of matches where teams involved are playing each other.”
