It is a bumper Bank Holiday Monday for racegoers and while quantity trumps quality, MUNFALLET can nevertheless take a starring role at Redcar.

With seven British meetings, it may pay to be a bit more selective with where you invest your cash. The David Brown-trained Munfallet makes plenty of appeal in the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap.

The six-year-old really hit his stride towards the end of last term, signing off with victories at Chepstow and Haydock following a little quieter spell during the high summer.

He proved game in winning on the first occasion at the Welsh venue, and duly backed that up with another win when upped in class on Merseyside.

Munfallet once again cut out the pace that day and found plenty for pressure to spring a minor surprise in holding the once classy Blaine by a short head.

The margin of victory ensured the handicapper could not go too mad and, while Brown would obviously prefer to start off a perch lower than 90, Munfallet has earned his mark and can pick up where he left off last term.

MERLIN can strike gold for the Queen in the second division of the totepool Happy Easter Maiden Stakes.

His dam, Momentary, was a winner for Michael Bell during her racing days.

The Newmarket trainer looks to have found an ideal opportunity for this gelding to get off the mark.

He did not show his best on his debut over seven furlongs at Yarmouth but, upped to a mile at that track last September, Merlin turned in an improved effort to be second.

Sticking at that trip seems an obvious choice here.

HIGH ACCLAIM found Listed company too tough first time out, but a drop in level for the FCL Global Forwarding Making Logistics Personal Handicap should see him back on the right track at Wolverhampton.

QUEEN IN WAITING can make it two wins from three starts in the Banks’s Amber Bitter Handicap. SELECTIONS REDCAR: 2.05 Carlton Frankie, 2.35 Ninepin Bowler, 3.10 Merlin, 3.45 MUNFALLET (NAP), 4.20 Imperial Focus, 4.55 Tricky Dicky, 5.30 Major Rowan, 6.00 Scotch Myst.
